The Smeg Burghley BU93S Range Cooker in Silver

A classic range with a modern look, the Smeg Burghley BU93 is a new offering from a company renowned for its stainless steel range cookers and retro fridges, and bucks the trend by going for a rather more cosy and traditional feel which should delight UK customers. Classic Range with a Modern Look

Having enjoyed great success with their Victoria TR411 and TR93 ranges, Smeg are homing in on the more traditional cooking values previously exploited by UK brands like Rangemaster, Belling or Stoves - a strong area of the market Smeg have previously neglected. The new Smeg Burghley BU93 takes the concept established by the more sophisticated Smeg Victoria range and offers UK cooks a simpler look and specification at an appealingly lower price. The Silver painted finish adds a modern edge to the Burghley's classic appearance - a useful effect if stainless steel is not quite right, and if you really like the iconic Smeg brand you could also consider accessorising with large and small Smeg Retro appliances in the same finish, which will allow you to fully coordinate your kitchen.

No-fuss Design and Specification

With its flat door and facia design, the Burghley BU93S has a less fussy appearance than the more stylised Victoria TR93, but benefits from very similar door handles and solid metal control knobs despite its lower price. Under the neat cast iron pan supports the hob gives you a powerful 4kW ultra rapid central burner - unusual at this price point - plus a 2.9kW, two 1.8kW and a 1kW simmer burner. The ovens are where you see the some cost-savings, with a fanned (programmable) main oven rather than multifunction, and wipe-clean enamel rather than self-clean liners. The tall fanned oven is the same as Victoria, and there is a separate single circuit variable electric grill, featuring a tilting element for easy cleaning. Dispensing with the towel rail and rear upstand also helps reduce the cost and gives the Burghley a broader appeal.

Smeg Burghley BU93S info

Available in Cream, Black or Silver (a painted finish, not stainless steel), the Smeg Burghley BU93 comes with an LPG conversion kit for kitchens not on mains gas, and requires a 30 Amp electrical connection. You can of course pair it with a Smeg Victoria chimney hood (save £50 on this or any other hood) and a nice coloured glass splashback, and even a classic Smeg Retro fridge.

At £1295*, Smeg have done a great job of making the Burghley BU93S a very attractive package at a very reasonable price. The Smeg brand certainly has kudos in the kitchen, and having another solid-feeling traditional 90cm cooker in the line-up is great news for British cooks looking for something a little different from an established and well-liked Italian manufacturer.
