Britannia 2013 Collection - Q Line and Wyre Ranges

Britannia's launch of a new range cooker collection in March 2013 may have come as a surprise to fans of their previous ranges, but the new ranges look like they will quickly find their way into the hearts of Britannia's very loyal owners. With a fresher look and some nice improvements, the underlying cooker is still of the high quality we have come to expect of this prestigious brand.

Four new product lines are available, and in this blog post we will take a closer look at the two entry-level Britannia ranges, the smart and crisp Q Line and the more cosy and traditional Wyre, priced from

Q Line - Crisp and Modern

Britannia always did well with their previous L Line model, as it offered consumers true Britannia quality and performance at a more reachable price. The same can be said of the new Q Line, which presents a very modern face and offers true Britannia performance, but which includes subtle cost-saving touches which allow it to be available at a lower price than the Delphi, its full-blood equivalent. Available as 90cm single or twin cavity, and 100cm twin or "XG" formats (with extra grill cavity), the Q Line comes in stainless steel or gloss black. In an inspired move, whichever format you go for you can choose either dual fuel with six burner gas hob, or an all electric format with five zone induction hob.

Full Britannia quality and performance at a lower price - the Q Line is a stunning contemporary cooker with full cooking credentials

Wyre - Soft and Elegant

The Britannia Wyre (named after a waterway local to Britannia's Blackpool HQ) represents a somewhat new opportunity for the brand, as there has previously been no traditional-looking entry level range in the Britannia line-up. The Wyre is the only new style to have solid, non-windowed doors, and it comes in either matt cream or matt black, which gives a softer appearance which sets off its elegantly turned control knobs and handles very nicely. The Britannia Wyre should look stunning in any classic or traditional kitchen setting. Like the Q Line, the Wyre comes as a 90cm single or twin cavity, or a 100cm twin or "XG" format with additional grill, and in either dual fuel or induction.

Cost-saving Touches

Aluminium gas rings, rather than brass
Wok support optional extra, rather than standard
Metalised plastic control knobs, rather than solid metal
Simpler programmer/timer
Optional stay-clean liners, rather than standard
Standard oven shelves, rather than heavy duty
Optional telescopic shelf rails, rather than standard
Drop-down storage door, rather than soft-close drawer

Ovens and Hobs

The Q Line and Wyre both offer the same removable triple-glazed doors (with removable inner glass) and A-rated 9-function Quickstart main oven as their pricier siblings, as well as a rotisserie in the second 4-function oven, so there is no compromise when it comes to oven performance. Stay-clean liners are available as optional extras, but a removable enamel roof tray is included. On the top of the cooker, gas hobs are pressed from a single sheet of stainless steel, so there are no grime traps, and two-ring spill wells minimise potential mess. The crisp and elegant cast iron pan supports are individual on 100cm models, or cover two burners on 90cm versions. Britannia's famous Cook Top is available as an optional extra - a solid stainless steel griddle which replaces the middle pan support(s) to provide a great Teppan Yaki style cooking area. If you prefer electric, a sleek 5-zone induction hob will provide you with the latest G5 induction technology, giving power and controllability with the convenience of a ceramic surface.

With prices starting at £1895 and rising to £3395*, these new Brtannia range cookers offer excellent quality and remarkable value, along with a solid two year warranty. The Britannia brand carries a lot of kudos in a lot of very smart kitchens around the UK, and the Q Line and Wyre should find a happy home in many more.
